Founded in Personal Experience
Rothschild’s Orthopedic Appliances, Inc. was founded by Vernon Rothschild whose personal experience led to a commitment to create superior prosthetics. Vernon began working in prosthetics in 1965, shortly after the amputation of his left leg below the knee. He was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge. He then went to work for the prosthetic division of the Veterans Hospital in New York City.

In 1977, Vernon founded Rothschild’s Orthopedic Appliances, Inc. in Forestville, Maryland. He attributes the majority of his success to the fact that as an amputee he was able to appreciate the need to combine lightweight, state-of-the-art components with well fitting socket designs.
